MCRA is a "Not for Profit" club incorporated in Missouri. Our main purpose is devoted to promoting and furthering the sport of motorcycle road racing. In 1974, enthusiasts just like yourself formed the club. Today our membership is comprised of racers, corner workers, riders and ordinary spectators of all ages. MCRA and its members have been affiliated with the Western Eastern Road racing Association (WERA) for many years and are now associated with Championship Cup Series (CCS). MCRA has also provided support for American Motorcyclist Association professional events, plus independent racing organizations as well. Membership Dues, What do I get for it? The membership dues to become a MCRA member is only $20 and due annually on May 1st. The dues are a very important part of the organization which helps us continue to provide the track days, organized rides and events that everyone enjoys. Current members receive discounts on many events and functions held by the MCRA. Also, members can also receive special discounts from our sponsors when presenting a valid membership card. As we are gaining more sponsors, this is becoming a valuable asset in itself. You will also have an input on the direction the club takes by attending the monthly meetings and voting on different important topics. Just one of the clubs long term goals is the promotion of and keeping motorcycle road racing right here in the St. Louis area. This alone will benefit everyone. CORNER WORKERS!! You must be a valid, current member to work as a corner worker! Don't forget to pay your dues! What is road racing and how can someone participate? For those not already aware, road racing takes place on a paved surface; a mile or more in length is typical. Tracks like the one at Gateway International Raceway are road courses constructed within the confines of an oval, but many courses follow natural land contours. Most organizations have Production, Superbike, and Grand Prix classes for both novice (beginning racer) and experts. Most novices start in the production classes with mid-displacement machines; this allows them to enter more races per day. This also allows for an easy transition for getting a road-legal motorcycle ready for the racetrack. A 750cc limit is also normally imposed upon novices. Road racing schools are required and are available for the beginner at club venues. They require the individual to provide a prepared motorcycle and riding gear such as a leather suit, boots, helmet, gloves, and back protector, but some rider equipment may be available for rent. Can I participate if I am not a Racer? MCRA established our Safety Crew of corner marshals some years ago. We provide a corner marshal's school and all the equipment needed to perform this important function. Our key staff members have completed the AMA Pro Marshal Instruction and have many years of experience at both amateur and professional events including the Daytona 200, WERA Grand National Finals, and St. Louis' own Gateway AMA Superbike weekend. (We are presently working to bring AMA Superbike road racing back to Gateway.) How do I join and where do I go for meetings? Joining can either be completed with our online application, our mailing in application or signing up at one of our meetings. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Sports Page Tavern & Restaurant in Dupo, IL. Click on the meetings link on the left of this page for more info. What does MCRA do when its not promoting road racing? At our meetings, which start at 7:30 pm, many of us have food and drink while we discuss general membership business, upcoming races where the corner marshal services of MCRA will be needed, motorcycle related events, and plan future rides. After discussions are complete, a motorcycle related video is generally brought out and the "bench-racing" begins. Always a fun time. We do our best to get together for group rides as much as possible. When we have a planned ride, plan to meet at a convenient site in St. Louis County. Arrive at a pre-set time for coffee and a brief orientation meeting. The route will normally be prearranged, but is always open to ideas & suggestions. Visit our forum for ride info.
